Digital Cable FAQ
What advantages does Digital Cable have over other television program providers?
First, Time Warner Cable offers exclusive new On Demand features like:
- Movies On Demand: unlimited, on-demand access to hundreds of blockbuster movies and your favorite classic films.
- Premiums On Demand: unlimited, on-demand access to the best of HBO®, Showtime®, Cinemax®, and The Movie Channel®.
- Favorites On Demand: unlimited, on-demand access to favorite channels like Comedy Central, Biography, Food Channel, Cartoon Network, Golf Channel, and more.
- Answers on Demand: shows you how to get the most out of your Digital Cable from programming your remote control to recording with the DVR.
Unlike other services, Digital Cable allows you to enjoy the digital option without having to purchase extra equipment. With Digital Cable, you also automatically receive Time Warner Cable's 30-day money-back guarantee and 24-hour customer support.
Cable vs. Satellite:
Here are some of the advantages of choosing cable over satellite:
- Equipment - Time Warner Cable will lease you the cable equipment you need (such as a remote and converter, if required -- depending on the service you choose), and when necessary, we'll upgrade it free of charge.
- Local Channels - Time Warner Cable brings you local broadcast channels with local news, weather, sports and network programming at no extra charge. Satellite offers local channels, but you might have to pay extra for them.
- Local Presence - For convenient customer service, Time Warner Cable is nearby. Most satellite broadcast companies are halfway across the nation.
- No Annual Contracts - If you're not satisfied with your Time Warner Cable service at any time, we'll disconnect your service, no questions asked and no early termination fees. Satellite companies routinely require long term commitments in order to qualify for certain packages. Early termination may result in a fee being charged directly to your credit card.
- Rain Fade - You won't experience these reception problems since your Time Warner Cable connection is a direct link. Satellite dishes can experience interference problems known as "rain fade."
- Service - Our service calls are prompt, free and backed by our On-Time Guarantee. For satellite you pay an expert every time you need service.
- Telephone Requirement - With Time Warner Cable's Digital Cable Service, ordering pay-per-view simply requires the touch of a button on your remote control. In order to purchase pay-per-view via a satellite provider, a telephone line is required.
What is the difference between Digital Cable and HDTV?
Digital Cable is a type of television signal. HDTV is the highest quality in digital signals, offering better resolution and sound than a standard digital signal. Digital Cable can be watched on your existing standard television if you have one of our digital set-top boxes. Do I need a separate cable set-top box for each outlet?

What channels do I get with Digital Cable?:
Up to 250 channels plus 40 crystal clear music channels. Please check with your local Time Warner Cable office to see the exact channel line-up and pricing.
How many television sets can I connect to Digital Cable?
You can connect Digital Cable to any number of TVs in your home for a low fee per month for each TV, plus equipment charges. A one-time upgrade charge will be applied to connect your TVs with Digital Cable.
Can I get Dolby Digital sound from my Digital Cable box?

HD FAQs
What is HDTV and how is it different?
HDTV stands for high-definition television, with the emphasis on high-definition. Currently your television is receiving an analog signal. In analog TV a 6 MHz signal produces something like 500 horizontal pixels (dots), these pixels comprise the picture you see on your screen. HDTV can have a resolution of up to 1920 by 1080 pixels, or greater than 2 million pixels. That's more than six times the detail of regular television!
Do I have to be a Digital Cable customer to get HDTV?
Yes. To get HDTV, customers must have Digital Cable. HDTV relies on digital technology. If you currently have Digital Cable, call your local Time Warner Cable office and schedule a home visit and one of our experienced installers will upgrade your current cable set-top box to an HD-enabled one.
Do I need HDTV (High Definition Television) to watch Digital Cable?:
No. You can watch Time Warner Digital Cable on a standard television if you have one of our digital set-top boxes. If you want to view Digital Cable in high definition (HDTV), you will need a "High Definition Television." How many high definition stations can I get with Time Warner Cable HDTV?
The number of high definition stations you can receive depends on the Time Warner Cable area you live in. Depending on the area, Time Warner Cable offers various channels including: ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, WB, UPN, HBO, Showtime and Discovery HD Theater. Some areas offer additional HD packages including movies, sports and events from HD-Net and IN-HD. In addition, we plan to offer more channels in the very near future as they become available.
Do I need an HDTV receiver?
No, the HDTV digital converter (provided by Time Warner Cable) is your receiver to view HD programming on our cable system.
Do I have to buy any other HDTV equipment?
Anyone who wants to receive a high definition signal needs a HDTV set ("High Definition Television Monitor"), available at major electronics retailers. "High Definition Television Monitors" do not come with a HD tuner, but that's okay because the Time Warner Cable HD-enabled box comes with one built in. Once you have a HDTV set and Digital Cable, call your local Time Warner Cable office to upgrade your current digital set-top box to an HD-enabled one.
How do I get HDTV?
Once you have a high definition television, you can access HDTV programming by calling your local Time Warner Cable office and setting up an appointment to upgrade your cable set-top box to an HD-enabled one.
How much does HD cost?
All customers who wish to view High Definition TV services from Time Warner will need an HDTV home communication terminal from Time Warner that offers some local broadcast networks and Discovery Channel in High Definition. If you subscribe to Digital HBO or Showtime, Time Warner's HD home terminal will provide both these networks in High Definition at no extra charge. We currently offer some additional High Definition programming networks are available in a package for an additional monthly service charge.
